THE TRITONE AND BEYOND

With this Volume, you will now be able to harmonize on tones that are not part of the major scale, the bII, bIII, bV (Tritone) and the #V!! The most beautiful passing chord transitions and harmonys occur when you start playing chords that are outside of the scale. We have demonstrated this sound in one of our videos,

For example if you are in the key of Db we show you that you can play a D chord, and E chord, a G Chord on an A chord.... even though those tones are not part of the scale..but if you voice those chords with the right accidentals, the resulting sounds are sweet. Using the technique in Volume III will definitly have you playing some out of scale harmonys.

With this course you will be creating your own harmonies and progressions to go with YOUR music. There are no progressions or songs to memorize.

  • Harmonize on the bII, II, -III, bV (Tritone) and the #V

You can always use these out of scale harmonys as passing chords.

Harmonize on tones not part of the Major Scale!!!!

There is no E in the key of Db, but we are going to play an E chord as a passing chord in going from Ab to Db (V -> I) Progression. Ab13sus, E 6,9 , followed by Db Maj 7.

Play the following chords in sequence and listen:

This Ab9 sus will function as a V Chord in the Key of Db. We will insert an E as a Passing chord on the way down to the one Chord (Db)

This E 6,9 b5 as a passsing chord proves our point that the out of scale tones are the beauty. There is no E in the key of Db!!

Now we can resolve down to the I Chord (Db Maj 9).

With the Play by Number System, we want to give you the ability to harmonize as you play, and be free to choose where you want to go musically depending on the mood or service. The chords and progressions that you create from the chords in this course are going to be your own little secret!!!
